McNair/McAllister FAQs of 2022
McNair/McAllister FAQs of 2022
Merry Late-mas and happy new year! (It’s never too late to celebrate the birth of Christ, right?) or maybe we should just say this is our Valentine’s card to save us from embarrassment. 2022 has been a wild roller coster of a year, we are here to answer some frequently asked questions.
Where are you guys living?
Currently, Wasilla Alaska. We are working hard liquidating Randy‘s late father‘s estate. There are several storage units full of stuff to empty, sell, or donate. Before his passing, Randy’s Dad ran his own business, selling cold-weather boots and other miscellaneous items. We sure have our hands full. It is difficult work, but we get to spend a lot of time together as a family.
Earlier this year we were playing an awkward ping-pong-back-and-forth-game of staying in Alaska and Utah before our ball fell on Alaska’s side of the court, settling in for a more long-term stay since mid June. Before hand we stayed almost a year, on and off, in Mount Pleasant, Utah. Lara’s Dad was kind enough to let us play and explore, I mean *cough, cough* work hard on the McAllister’s family’s sheep ranch in Fairview, Utah. We all had a wonderful time making memories full of good old fashioned country bliss.
Are you enjoying Alaska?
Yes and no. Alaska’s over the top majestic-ness can’t be beat. But she is a siren, seducing us with her beauty from her epic landscapes, wildlife, endless daytime summers, wild berry and mushroom harvesting to her winter wonderlands and northern lights. Fun to look at and explore but difficult to work in her extreme and harsh weather conditions. We, especially Lara, miss living close to family and friends, but we are trying to take it all in and enjoy the adventure.
How long are you planning on being in Alaska?
That is a very good question. Not quite sure yet. Either until we get the job done or until we declare that it is “good enough.” So who knows.
Where are you planning on going after Alaska?
Another very good question. Again, not quite sure yet. We are hoping to find a place that we can call home, purchase land/a house and lay down some roots. If you know of any good/interesting options let us know.
Have you worked on any fun projects lately?
YES! The freelancing fairies have been good to us in 2022, We have been blessed to be involved with many puppet and film projects!
A handful of our favorite puppets commissions we’ve created this past year include: a life size “killer robot ”, life size Muchlax Pokémon, an oversized nasty grub and a replica puppet of cartoonist Chad Carpenter (Tundra Comics.) Keep an eye on our Facebook pages for updates and releases of these products.
Lara was lucky enough to be a co-director on a short film project produced by East Hollywood High School (the school she used to teach at.) It has been tricky and difficult to stay involved remotely but she is humbled and thrilled to still have ties to a school she loves so much. The film is scheduled to premiere early March.
Randy has been heavily involved with Convent Communications for a project called Allie Zander and Friends, creating children content that teaches gospel principles.
How is that beautiful girl of yours doing?
Great! She reigns as the Queen of Curiosity, living her best life as she explores and experiences the world around her (constantly keeping us on our toes!) Raw onion is one of her favorite snacks. She is Baby Yoda and Bluey’s biggest fan and always down for a Target or Taco Bell trip. She loves chasing Darrel (our feral kitten we rescued and tamed this summer) around and around.
It is a real treat and privilege watching her grow and learn. Her imagination is bursting and it is a delight being involved in the process. She is often playing hide-n-seek with imaginary moose and loves to be rolled into “blanket burritos.” She is a gem and we are so lucky to have her.
If you are receiving this letter, know it’s because we value to the impact you have had on our lives! Thank you. You are very special to us and we appreciate you deeply! We hope and pray that 2023 will bring you joy and peace. Don’t be a stranger, we would love to learn and hear about your 2022! Now, enjoy this photo of our little family.
Love
The McNairs
